I just got caught up on your messages since Tuesday.
When I was confronted with the same situation, I waited and got a new "O" ring from the Saab dealer ($3). No problems for a year and a half since I completed the job. It may have worked out the same way if re-used one of the originals, but I have seen people having to do the job over because the transfer tube leaks after a while. Better safe than sorry !
BTW: I lubricated the sealing surface on the block and the grooves on the transfer tube with vasoline before installing.
