Are you certain that the second code read on the scan tool was for P0146?

P0146 = Bank 1 Sensor 3 No activity reported.

My 2001 93 with 4 cylinder turbo has only 2 oxygen sensors. If yours has a third sensor, that code would be for a third oxygen sensor located somewhere after the catalytic converter.

Just a hunch here, but my guess is that the correct code would be for a lean condition reading which is a different #.

Oxygen sensors indirectly measure oxygen content. When your car misfires, you would expect an excess of unburned fuel. Which is true, but it would not indicate a rich condition in this case. Just the opposite, because along for the misfire ride, is an excess of oxygen. Because of the way the sensor works by measuring oxygen content, it reads a lean condition instead.

In short, if my hunch is correct (that it is a different code), the misfire is causing the O2 sensor code, and not vice verso.

hope it helps.
