sheared gasket?

I had the exact same scenario. Torqued the head bolts, put a new cover gasket in and oil everywhere! Turned out that the cover gasket had moved slightly on me when I put the cover back on and the cover sheared it in two places.

Solution was to buy a new gasket and use gasket sealer to tack it into place in the cover. Let it set for an hour. Then when I flipped the cover over onto the head, the gasket stayed in place. No leaks since.
