I go to the garage to settle up and get the key. Planned on towing it home and doing an autopsy this weekend. The garage guy feels bad for me, blah, blah, but gives me my key, no charge, but basically says all they tried to do was start the car (key and push start) and the engine wouldn’t move.
Thanks Swedecar, but your post gave me hope and I brought my breaker bar and a drill bit. I compress the tension pulley and lock it in place and the engine starts. I turn it off, reach in and the A/C compressor won’t spin. Its seized WHICH IS WHAT I TOLD THEM, 3 TIMES, I THOUGHT IT WAS. I march in and tell (yell) them my “seized” engine is now purring like it’s supposed to and because of their negligence I was already arranging to donate a car still worth about $7000 it to a charity for the cost of a $250 compressor (some hyperbole, but I needed to make a point). I tell them that I’ll get it out of their parking lot this weekend but I’m not a happy (former) customer.

2 hours later I get a call from the manager. Their sorry and want to make it right. They’re offering to replace the compressor. I can provide the parts - they eat the labor. I know it’s just car. Maybe it’s a Saab guy-thing or an middle-aged convertible thing, but I was really upset when I decided that I was going to scrap my car. I watched myself go thru the 5 stages of loss interrupted at each stage by the tequila stage :) Hopefully all will be right on Tuesday.
