I'm with you on this one. Trying to buy some parts for my Viggen has me really glad I have a basement full of spares. A friend and I bought a Viggen with a blown engine and stripped it. I have an entire drivetrain, bumpers and interior stored. The small electrical bits have been great for trouble shooting when need be and many just can't be sourced any more. The Viggen cost us $2000 and by the time e sold the snow tires and rims, the exhaust, the IC, tires, and chassis, we made our money back.
I also bought an SE that's stored in a friend's barn and that one cost me $500. Storage is free as he needed the subframe and I sold $500 worth of the parts I can't use.
So I can't see how you could lose....
