Replace convertible Onstar antenna

The Onstar antenna on my '01 convertible is of course no longer functional. It is also broken off at the top and snags the car cover. I'm thinking I could take it out and fill the hole in the fender with the radio antenna fittings, including the top part of the mast, but leaving off the antenna motor if possible. In appearance it would duplicate what is on the left fender. Has anybody done this? Is it doable?
