GaryP here on these forums helped me with this. In my case, I had rebuilt the entire front end 3 years ago and began to experience this clunk (see my post on Au. 21st) shortly there after. Gary pointed out that I probably didn't install the stanchion arm 'sleeve bushings' (http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/8835/Sleeve-stanchion-arm-bushing-4246062/) and he was right, I didn't know that they existed. See I had this clunk before the rebuild and the sleeves were virtually rusted away in my old stanchions. Also the bolts securing the stanchions to the sub frame were almost rusted through.....if you are going to check this on your car, be very careful you do not break one of these. Liberally soak with penetrating oil (PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, etc....and not WD-40). Work the bolt in and out carefully and have new ones on hand. They are currently available at eEuro and have been difficult to get in the past years (http://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/29017/Bolt-11100011/) In your case, you mention that yours were rusted under the head so I hope that you replaced yours? That rust will allow the stanchion arm to move ever so slightly when changing direction and thus the clunk. The rust also means that your sleeves are probably near gone. Good luck!
