Crank Position Sensor diagnosis Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Fri, 21 Oct 2016 06:12:24 In Reply to: Re: Crank but no start, but runs after starter fluid, Eric, Thu, 20 Oct 2016 08:28:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The "it starts with starting fluid" diagnosis makes me wonder whether it's CPS or not - usually if the CPS is bad you'll get no spark or fuel at all. However, a couple of quick/dirty diagnosis for that - does the tachometer move at all when you crank the engine? Not a 100% diagnosis, but on most cars it gives at least a little wiggle (but not if the CPS is bad). Also since you have the engine cover off, activate the schraeder valve on the fuel rail (outdoors with safety glasses and a fire extinguisher please!!)after turning the key on. If there's fuel pressure there, then likely the T7, fuel pump, and fuel pressure regulator are all ok - the T7 will prime the pump at key on, but if there's no CPS input it will never fire the injectors.
Good luck!
