1999 9-3: Lengthy cranking time to start

Hi all,
I've got a 1999 9-3 with 140k on it that recently had been taking a great deal of time to start. The engine starts, and runs, fine when it does eventually, it just takes an excessively long time cranking to start. At least it seems excessive to me, 6-8 seconds? My T7 cars have always started within 2-3 seconds, but this is my first T5 car...this isnt "normal" for a T5 car is it (cold weather lengthy crank)?
I do need to do some more troubleshooting to see if I can narrow down a pattern as to when this happens. I wouldn't think this would be related to the ambient temp, granted it IS winter, but I'm in central California so its not exactly COLD. That and its definitely happened after sitting for 45 mins or so after being up for temp. I've already changed the CPS, and will be doing plugs tonight. Fuel filter was changed recently as well.
The main reason for this post was to verify that I can use a black DIC on this car to test? I seem to recall that a black DIC can be used in place of a red one, but not the other way around. I have a spare black DIC for my Viggen that I can use as a replacement, but I don't have a spare red one hanging around.
Any information or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
