Hi All, first time on the 9-3 board, as I have a couple 9000's.
My neighbor has offered me a great price on his 2002 9-3 SE with HO engine option, Mitsubishi TD04 turbo 210hp- just don't know if I can afford FREE!! He just wants to give it to me for partout/etc. He was just driving and the engine quit/locked up, not sure of the details. But at over 150k on the clock, and all of the dreaded oil 'sludge' engine deaths on this vintage of b204, b205 engines, guessing a replacement engine would be needed. Body is straigt, some rust on doglegs. Interior good.
How would a good B234 engine block out of a hi-mileage 9000 work?
I have read that the block only is usable from the 9k to the 9-3. All ancillary bits would transfer-head, timing cover, intake manifold, exhaust manifold and turbo, T7 wiring harness. New Headgasket.
In addition, would the ECU need to be reprogrammed in order to be compatible with the longer stroke and greater displacement of the 2.3?
Also, does the engine/trans unit come out the top, a la 9k? Or only dropping subframe? I would be doing in my garage and keeping car on floor would be safer and preferable.
Oh yeah, probably should replace clutch. This is why FREE is never FREE!!
