I believe the c pillar trim uses the two piece type p/n 4266540. If so, no tool seems to prevent breaking them. I've tried metal tools and plastic tools and tried going easy. The plastic tools have a flatter blade and give a bit so I think work better. The white male pin attaches to the trim while the gray female cone is inserted in the car body. Once together, it's very difficult to get any tool between the two pieces, and even if you do the cone walls are very thin and brittle and typically break. Worse yet, the channel on the trim piece may break before the pin/clip gives way, so breaking the clip is preferable. I've salvaged maybe one out of 10. Plenty of leftover pins but no cones. To have any hope, do it in warm weather.
As an aside, I've found replacements for a number of body clips on the car (e.g. Clips and fasteners dot com), but nothing to replace these. Might try some of the 'Christmas tree' type sometime, but for now I've just bit the bullet on the eeuro or dealership cost. Obviously don't put the car back together until you're sure. And to conserve precious extras only reinstall the clips that are critical for retention. Might've been clip overkill by the designers.
Good luck.
