Hylomar® Universal Blue
Hylomar Universal Blue
Hylomar Universal Blue is the oldest and most popular of the Hylomar series of sealants. Hylomar Universal Blue was originally developed in the 1960's by Rolls-Royce Plc to help seal against synthetic lubricants that were used in early jet engines. Yeas ago this original Hylomar formula was commonly known as either PL32 L, M or H (Light, Medium or Heavy grade). Some users were also familiar with the older Rolls-Royce internal part number of SQ32. However, per various changes in the Rolls-Royce requirements, the PL32 designation was removed in the mid 1990's and the product was renamed to "Universal Blue". The PL32 designation is now associated with the newer "Aerograde PL32M" or "Aerograde Ultra PL32A" formulations.
▪ Universal Blue is the original formula of Hylomar sealant that has been offered for 30+ years. This is the commercial version of Hylomar Aerograde PL32 which was also known as SQ32 during original development.
▪ Pratt & Whitney

Hylomar® M
Hylomar M
Hylomar M (previously known as Racing Formula) is an acetone based version of Hylomar Univeral Blue. The only noticeable physical difference between the Hylomar M and the original Hylomar Universal Blue is the acetone version exhibits increased adhesive properties when compared to the standard Hylomar Universal Blue. Thus, making it an ideal product for high performance applications. Therefore, it is used by Formula One and NASCAR® race teams. Typical applications include coating of pre-formed gaskets, water and oil pumps, cylinder heads and sumps, inlet manifolds, timing case covers, gear box and transmission components, thread sealing or for use on finely machined surfaces.
▪ Same basic formula as the Universal Blue but uses acetone as a base solvent. The use of acetone results in slightly tackier material and slightly higher adhesion.
▪ This version was previously known as Hylomar Racing Formula.
Hylomar® Advanced Formula
Hylomar Advanced Formula
Hylomar Advanced Formula is a solvent free, low viscosity version of the standard Universal Blue. It is ideally suited as a gasket dressing and it will enhance the sealing capabilities of all types of gaskets and can assist with gasket alignment during assembly. It is designed to seal closely fitting flanges against most lubricants and automotive fluids. Like all the Hylomar formulations, the sealant is re-sealable, non-setting and non-hardening which provides excellent resistance to vibration and thermal expansion of parts.
▪ Solvent free, low viscosity version of Hylomar. A heavy viscosity version is available on request.
▪ Originally this is the product that was sold by Permatex as their "Hylomar HPF".
Currently Permatex is NOT offering the true Hylomar material.
Hylomar® AeroGrade
PL32M
Hylomar AeroGrade PL32M
Hylomar Aerograde PL32 is the "aerospace" approved version of Hylomar Universal Blue and it has been developed based on specifications by Rolls-Royce Aerospace Division for sealing joints in jet turbine engines. Hylomar Aerograde PL32 can operate at temperatures of approximately 60F to +480F. It has been tested and approved by: National Power / Powergen 15/53/181, NCB Vocab No. 13.82.0414. 0303.16423, British Rail catalog No 9/2/31138 and 31140, MOD AFS 147 and DTD 900/4586B. Aerograde also meets the BASEEFA requirements of flame proof joints.
▪ Aerograde PL32 is the aerospace version of Hylomar and is available in Light or Medium grades.
▪ DTD 900/4586B
▪ Rolls-Royce Spec
MSRR-9055
▪ OMAT 4/46 and 4/47
Hylomar® AeroGrade Ultra
PL32A
Hylomar AeroGrade Ultra PL32a
Hylomar Aerograde Ultra (PL32A) was developed in response to requests from Rolls-Royce Aerospace Division for a Hylomar AeroGrade formulation which was free of chlorinated solvents. Aerograde Ultra carries the Rolls-Royce MSRR 9055 approval and OMAT numbers 4/46A (light version) and 4/47A (standard version).
NOTE: Aerograde Ultra utilizes acetone instead of chlorinated solvents, which results in the product being considered "Flammable" until the product is applied and the acetone has evaporated.
▪ Aerograde Ultra (PL32A) is the acetone based version of Hylomar "Aerograde". This is also the same formula as the commercial version called "HYLOMAR M".
▪ Rolls-Royce Spec
MSRR-9055
▪ OMAT 4/46A and 4/47A
