Viggen - Flat out performance, to the point of the car actually being dangerous in the hands of an unprepared driver. Exterior spoilers, air-dams, and ground effect additions were part of the package to visually and aerodynamically supplement the engine's capabilities. The engine, suspension, and parts of the drive train were unique to the Viggen.
SE - Luxury version. Customer comfort options were part of the SE package. In the final year of production the SE versions could be equipped with equivalent of the Viggen seats (without the logos) and most of the Viggen aerodynamic enhancements. Saab was trying to use up excess Viggen spare parts before the 9400 model (OG9-3) was put out to pasture.
Base - The name says it all. Lowest cost point with the longest list of available options.
So a Base could be optioned to be the equivalent of an SE, and an SE could be optioned (in the final year of production) to be a visual clone to the Viggen.
