I have a 2001 SE convertible, 5-speed manual, with 106,000 miles. It has just recently developed a whirring, or fluttering, noise on the passenger side when I shift from first to second gear, and from second to third, but only while accelerating. There is no noise if I shift while going downhill with my foot off the accelerator. I'm guessing that it's a pulley going bad. Has anybody had the same problem? Can I wait for it to get worse or does it require immediate attention?
