Clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder, flywheel...

I have an '01 9-3 with around 90k miles; on its original clutch.
About 6 months ago, with no warning, the clutch pedal fell to the floor. Had it towed to a local shop, and they replaced the clutch master cylinder. It drove fine after that, but I thought I could hear a noise - kind of a whirring noise, hard to describe - when the clutch pedal was engaged at all. I don't remember hearing that noise prior to the repair.
Last Friday, same symptom - got in the car in the morning, clutch pedal fell to the floor. Towed it back to the same shop. They said that now:
* The flywheel needs to be rotated,
* The slave cylinder needs replacement,
* The clutch needs replacement
To the tune of $2200.
Any chance that these failures could have been caused by an mistake in the master cylinder replacement last fall? The clutch in particular sounds suspicious to me -- I've never had any issues with the clutch in the past. Needing a complete replacement out of the blue sounds unusual to me.
$2200 sounds awfully high to me - I did not ask for a parts/labor breakdown.
any comments/thoughts/suggestions?
thanks!
