Hood stuck shut Posted by aizzo [Email] (#1220) [Profile/Gallery] (more from aizzo) on Tue, 16 May 2017 11:43:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Oh boy, we are in a bit of a pickle with our '97 NG900.
The cable for the hood latch broke, right at the pull handle in the cabin.
The replacement part (4854097) is no longer available, so we thought we'd cobble a cable together with a bicycle brake cable and a crimp on connector at the hood latch side. The bicycle brake cable had a barrel type connector pre-installed on one end and it was a perfect fit for the release handle. Things looked very promising...
We got it all together and tested it with the hood open, looked like it was working great....
Then we shut the hood and when the release was pulled...we heard a "clink" and the pull handle went loose and the hood was still latched.
I think the crimped on connector slid down and off the latch with the greater force needed to actuate the latch with the hood pin engaged.
So, now we have no cable connected to the latch and the hood is latched closed.
Any ideas about how we can get the hood unlatched, assuming no cable attached to the latch? :-{
Thanks!
Alan
