Alternator removal - top bolt stripped. Oh oh. Posted by MikeMc [Email] (#2446) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MikeMc) on Sat, 3 Nov 2018 19:00:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am replacing my alternator and have done what others have said you never want to do. I was able to remove the lower bolt. The upper bolt has stripped. From what I read, I am now in real trouble. I did read one solution involving drilling an access hole in the wheel well, then drill the bolt head and use an extractor. Quite drastic. Is there any magical way to extract the alternator while still attached to the upper bracket? Or, alternatively, unbolt the upper bracket, turn the assembly, and attack it with a saw to get it apart. I don't mind sacrificing the upper mount to make it an easier job. Looking for fresh unconventional ideas.
