I'll add my two cents here. First of all, Brock, thank you for posting the photos. I was stuck because the Haynes manual is inadequate on this job. The rectangular end of the fan speed controller connects to a heat sink under the black rounded plastic cover that Brock shows, then the cable travels upwards towards the dash and plugs into a plastic bracket from the direction front of car to back of car, angled slightly towards the passenger side (for left hand drive cars). To undo the old connector, inspect the new one and note a V-shaped clip built into the connector, on its top and bottom. Squeeze the V together with needle nosed pliers and you can slide the connector out of the bracket. Then you'll notice it's a very tight fit to get it out of there. I ended up feeding the whole cable and heat sink up and out the top of the space, then putting the new one in in the reverse direction.

You'll need some heat sink paste. I used Arctic MX-4, which I got from Amazon and comes in a handy syringe.

Also, removal of the vent tube is essential. Haynes doesn't mention this. It is a press fit into the vent in the dashboard and will come loose with some insistent wiggling. Then the end attached to the HVAC housing can come out.

The whole job took me 1.5 hours, which included searching Saabnet and a small amount of swearing.

Nice to have my HVAC fan back. The symptom was that the fan was stuck on high and wouldn't stop when turning off the ignition. I had to pull the 30A fuse at position 3 (left edge of dash, next to driver's door).
