So after reading one again about check valves that don't, I was driving home and washed the windows, no problem. We had fresh snow, appropriately converted into dirty brown salted sherbert (sp!). Go to clean the windows again, nadda. So getting the salt and slush sprayed onto the window during the commute really made mess of the windshield without the washers. Very scarey.
As I desperately tried the washers from time to time, I noticed that I smelled the window juice. So perhaps the pump works? Tried the rear washer, works great. So I concluded that the hose had opened up somewhere where the intake could gather the fumes.
Got home, poped the hood, and checked the fitting that goes through the black plastic cowelling. No hose on the back side of the fitting. So off with the wiper arms and cowelling, push the hose back on, and secured with nylon wire ties. Everything works great. Feeling great relief!
I can put up with things going bad to some degree, but not when it is winter and the car is dripping with slush.
