Change to heat range #6. Gap spec is .039, but I use .035.
Fuel starvation is an issue. Is the original filter in use, or has it been changed. They easily are good for 100000 miles. Your observation of running out of power blasting up hills on the highway is very consistant with fuel starvation. So the fuel filter should be suspect if it is old. Otherwise, fouled injectors or a weak fuel pump. Fuel pumps are expensive and difficult to replace. So look elsewhere first.
Try some fuel system cleaner as well. Techron Concentrate works well. It will clean the injectors and the combustion chambers.
The fact that clean new plugs helps is interesting. The plugs, as purchased are gapped too wide.
O2 sensors will affect your fuel consumption before you experience full thottle performance probems.
What grade of gas do you use?
