Mobil 1 gets dirty, yes. My Mobil 1 experience is a very favorable one.
The "worst" driving style people refer to is the "short distance, stop and go driver, and lives in cool/cold climates". This describes my wife's 1998 900 Turbo CV, with approx. 38,000 miles on it, to a tee.
But, I change the oil/and filter at 6 mos/5,000 miles whichever comes first.
I typically change the oil (and oil filter) after the engine has been run, and warm--allowing for a full 15/20 minute drain.
The oil is brown. I don't have a color palate number to tell you which shade of brown it is---but it is not the amber it was out of the bottle.
Hey, it's used oil.
It has no chunks/sludge/in it, but it is brown never-the-less.
I never let the color of the oil concern me EXCEPT--if I ever saw that MOCHA COFFEE/CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE color that would indicate the presence of antifreeze in the oil sump.
The truest way to tell if your oil, and your motor, are having a problem is through oil analysis.
The "brownness" has nothing to do with it.
