PVC will work for the freah air intake from the bumper to the airfilter box. PVC pipe is rated to withstand at least 100C (212F). The freah air intake does not exceed this temperature, even with the radiator and exhaust heat loading.
However, I agree that abetter choice would be a material such as aluminum for this application.
