In reply to Dean's questions: In general I have been pleased with my Michelin MXV4 tires, but considering it will cost me approx. $50 more per tire to replace, compared to an equivalent Pirelli tire, I am not convinced it is the right choice. I have done research on Tirerack under customer surveys and test reports, Consumers Reports and TSN, and I have concluded that the Pirelli P6000 SV & Michelin MXV4 are equivalent on overall performance. The one exception is tread ware. It appears that Michelin tires have a longer tread life, but when you factor in the cost of each tire, the Pirelli tire still excels in value. I hope to validate my findings based on other Saab owners' experience.
Regarding my personal experience with Michelin MXV4, I currently have 54,000 miles with approx. 3/32 inches of tread depth remaining. The tires are at the end of life and need to be replaced. Snow traction was acceptable in most cases. I got stuck for the first time last year on an incline with 3" of fresh snow. The tires would have had about 40,000 miles, and it is not surprising to me that I got stuck. Noise and ride comfort were very good, but that is subjective since I have not had any other tires on my Saab. Wet traction under normal driving was good, but I felt less confident under a more aggresive driving style. Dry traction was very good. Handling was very good, but was less impressive under aggresive driving style. The performance characteristics remained constant throughout the life of the tires, except for snow traction.
