Yes, I suggested nails, but the removal tool should work just as well. Try jerking the tool from side to side in addition to exerting force toward you. You don't need to get violent, just aggressive! Mine seemed to be tight the first time I removed it; subsequent removals have been easier. Don't give up, you can do it!
It would seem to me that if you have proof of registation then any dealer should be able to get the radio anti-theft code for your VIN. Maybe if you carried a baseball bat with you they would be more cooperative.
