Fixing the GLOVEBOX Light

Recent posts regarding the glovebox light (Jan 13-15) were inconclusive. At least my light still didn't work after removing the fixture and cleaning up its contacts. The bulb filament appeared to be okay, but my ohm-meter showed no resistance on the X1 scale. I could get some reading on the X10, X100, X1000 scales. Next I removed the bulb and jumped it directly to the car battery -- no light. So off to Wal*Mart where a package of two bulbs (GE DE7576 12V/10W) cost $2.78. Problem solved, but more....
The glovebox light is hot when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position (or key removed), and the main light switch (on the dash to the left of the steering column) is in its center position [+30 current]. With the light switch in the left-most position the ignition switch must be in the ON position [+54 current], and with the light switch in the right-most position the ignition must be in either the ON or OFF (but not LOCK) position [+X current]. In all cases the glovebox must be open, of course.
So with that fixed, everything on my SAAB now works - no squeaks, rattles, leaks, or anything else I frequently hear others bitching about!
