TPS should give ck engine light in T5. Anything is possible as we see on the BB.
Assuming for the moment all intake and vacuum is INTACT:
Have we checked timing ? If the crank position sensor goes south, it will affect the upshift light, as described, and the car idle can be impacted. It may not produce ck light under all circumstances.
A leak in a vacuum line/intake system will draw in more air thus adding more fuel, thus raising the base speed. There are 4/5/6 of those vacuum lines at a TEE just behind the thermostat cap. Some careless mechanic nick one or knock one off ? Any of us old time Saab drivers accidentally knock off a vacuum line on a pre 94 16v and you'll darn near guarantee 1,800 or so at idle.
Dip Stick seated ?
Resistance check of intake air sensor ?
Returning to TPS--check it with Tech 2 very easy. Should be stepless.
MAP sensor faulty ?
EVAP sensor check w/Tech 2.
Tried a different set of plugs ? We are using NGK's ? Copper 6 or 7's right?
Swap out control module ?
