After a week of trying to trouble shoot a severe miss at idle I broke down and had the local SaaB dealer run an engine diagnostic test. The test revealed the #3 sparkplug wire was bad. The dealer gave me an estimate of $411.00 to replace the wire and change the plugs. But the service manager was really cool and said if you want to do it yourself I wouldn't blame you. I immediately started asking questions. What were the required parts to complete the job and what tools would I need? I purchased the #3 sparkplug wire Part # 45-04-379 $61.95, Bosh Super plugs FR 8 LDC $6.72 each and the intake gasket part# 45-03-512 $6.30. I then opened the hood and removed the Saab engine cover and proceeded to unbolt the intake the 7 nuts on came off the studs with ease. After unhooking the air intake hose i lifted the intake carefully so I could identify any hoses that would to be reconnected. I then used a small bungee to hold the intake out of the way. After cleaning the old gasket off the intake; I placed the new gasket in its place and covered the manifold with a clean rag. Then I changed the #3 plug wire and the 1-3-5 cylinders plugs. Then I removed the rag and lowered the intake back in place reattached 2 vaccum lines and tightened up the nuts (evenly to 14 ftlbs). Then I changed the plugs in the 2-4-6 cylinders. Total time start to finish was 25 minutes. But you do need a screwdriver, ftlb wrench and metric sockets oh and a 5/8 sparkplug socket and a pair of long needlenose pliers.
