The silencer will have a subtle effect on noise. If you have a K&N filter and modify the air box, then the high frequency noises are quite apparent. The 15" long snorkle tube in the air box is a high frequency filters. When you modify the air box and remove that tube, then sounds from the turbo can be heard.
Most of the noise comes from the turbo discharge, and this sound propogates through the intercooler etc. At low throttle, and before boost comes on, you can hear the turbo spin up until the bypass valve closes. So you hear a spin up that then stops. I do hear a woosh sound at high boost.
It sounds like you are hitting a fuel cut. Your boost should be just at the start of the red line. If boost gets to 1/2 thru the red, there will be fuel cut.
What gear does this happen in? If you build up boost with a progressive throttle, does this happen, and what boost do you then see at the indicator?
You can get power cuts of this nature if you are running the wrong plugs, and they are fouled up. They will then track over the insulator at higher boost pressures which increased the electrical break down voltage for the spark gaps. That is why turbo charged engines need specialized ignition systems, and generally reduced spark plug gaps.
