This for the non turbo vehicles, motronic engine management only.
You should get this taken care of ASAP, as you might damage the cat converter by ignoring the problem.
Turn off engine. Put a wire into pin #6 of the diagnostic connector. Turn on ignition without starting the engine. Connect the other end of the wire to a good ground for a few seconds.
The check engine light will flash. Then a long flach indicated that codes are about to follow.
You need to count the flashes. They will come in groups of two, for two digit numbers. Multiple two digit numbers could be displayed.
This display will repeat until you turn off the ignition.
11 secondary air injection relay
12 no fault
21 air mass flow sensor
41 coolant temperature sensor
51 throttle postion sensor
61 lamda sensor (02 sensor)
71 long adaption time
73 short adaption time
81 evaporative loss system purge valve
91 ECU RAM fault (bad memory)
92 ECU ROM read fault
You can reset the ECU by removing power to it. Pull fuse #17 for 30 seconds and replace. Ignition must be off when you do this. Don't do this before you retrieve codes. If you clear the codes, they will come back as the ECU detects problems. So doing this really accomplishes very little.
Also, note if your engine is warming up as it should. Check the basics under the hood. Are the plugs black?
