Well in all due respect, the differences between MY 95 to MY 98 are HUGE. To steer somebody away and/or to advise someone of something you do not know first hand--ie '97 or '98-- is your own business.
1994 and 1995 and V-6's have come to be know as rides to avoid (for the most part)in the NG.
I had a '96 and it had many holdover problems from the '95. It took a great deal of patience and a good dealer and even Saab rep to work through all of them. Who ever got my 96 at the return of the lease got a great car.
By 1998, most issues had been worked out--and then the launch of the 9-3 with over 1,000 improvements of the NG as an early 99.
Not to say that there is some owner equally displeased with their 98. But a more global look at the statistics/warranty issues/ failure rates supports my contentions here.
