Well, I'm pretty biased to GTIs I suppose. A buddy had a Saab 99 that we tooled around in back in 1985, so I like Saabs from that history. But I had an 85 8v GTI that was a lot of fun for 15 years. The truth is, I just dig hatchbacks, hence the two cars.
Our Saab V6 is just a solid, comfortable, tank of a car with decent enough pep and an enjoyable ride on the highway. The GTI just plain screams. It's a lot of fun. It's much more of a darting, see me now, now you don't kinda car. I love it. I suppose it floats a little bit at high speeds in corners and all, and folks have implied you could tighten up the suspension to improve, but that's just nit-pickin. It's a blast. I'm sure the 1.8T is a sweet deal too with less overall weight. Our V6 Saab just says, hello, I'm comfortable at 70 mph, while the GTI says, excuse me, can we go 80 please for ultimate pleasure.
Cheers
