I wrote this up once for The Saabnet.com mailing list back in 1996, but here it is again...

The famous Seinfeld episode in which his mechanic steals Jerry's Saab was on this past Thursday. I was able to catch the scene where they are ID'ing Jerry's supposedly dead Saab and make a number of Saab detail bloopers. Here's the script:

Scene: Looks like an old warehouse. Detective, Jerry, Elaine, and
cop enter. Car is under a tarp. Detective holds up the tarp (like
they hold up the corner of the sheet to identify a body).

Jerry & Elaine: Oh my god!

Detective: The block is nearly split apart. We found the overhead
cams 30 feet away. We can only hope the body sold for scrap.

Elaine: Oh my god!

Detective: And we know it's a Saab. The angle of the V6 is definitely
a '92. The model's hard to determine because the drive train is all
burnt out.

Jerry: What is that smell?

Detective: Look at the clucth.

Jerry & Elaine: Oh!

Cop: Excuse me (leaves suddenly as if ill)!

Detective: Whoever did this didn't just dismantle it. I mean, they took
their time. They had fun. They were very systematic. They went out
of their way to gouge the side of every piston and the turbo was
separated from the housing and shoved right up the exhaust pipe.

Elain: Oh!

Jerry: Wait a second! A turbo? I didn't have a turbo.

Detective: Your car's not a turbo?

Jerry: No, it's a 900S. (Turning to Elaine) It's a turbo, Elaine, a
turbo!

Elaine: (excitedly) It's a turbo!

Jerry & Elaine celebrate as another woman enters

Woman: Excuse me. Did you say turbo? Saab turbo 9000? Is it midnight blue? (starting to cry)

Detective: Yes, Maam.
