SportWagons are cool.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Fri, 3 Dec 2004 10:25:56 In Reply to: hatch or wagon?, rodel, Fri, 3 Dec 2004 08:23:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First off a 9-5 is just a superior car to a NG9-3 in everyway. Comfort, luxury, room, ride, handling, power, option availibility, sound system, reliability, you name it. It's an important generation of automotive technology newer.
Second of all access to what cargo room there is is vastly improved with the wagon. You can fold forward the back seats easily and individually to get at what's at the front of the "trunk", unlike the 9-3 with it's structural bar across the seatbacks. And from behind, the SportWagon loads from bumper height, no awkward carry over sill as in the 9-3. There also storage space under the floor and to the sides the doesn't exist in the hatch and cargo tracks for securing things. The hard cargo cover of the wagon, unique to Saab and one of my favorite design features, slides and folds offering more options, easier storage and less rattles. The roof rack is standard, or at least it was until the new 2005's. And the actual space availible is far superior, longer, wider, taller, with a perfectly flat floor if your sleeping back there.
I'm especially fond of carting people around in the back seat as it's so roomy and comfortable back there and it's much more spacious feeling than the sedan with all the glass and space behind you. There's thinner "C" pillars for better visibility too.
The 9-5 SportWagon is the natural successor to the hatchback and for me is arguably the best looking Saab.
And my mantra is still "All the cool people drive wagons..."
