I've owned most of the models SAAB has built, and the C900 is the one that I really hold dearest. Like you, I have a collection of them too. The engine layout is what makes it unique. Its hard to get excited about anything that is transverse mount. It just seems like the default layout for an economy car. I too hope SAAB gets away from it with their future models. Even if that means ditching FWD.
