if are used to ABS and then have to brake really hard in a car that doesn't have it things can be kinda exciting.

I've had this happen twice in rental cars that lacked ABS, a fact which I discovered under heavy emergency braking, once to avoid another car and once to avoid a deer. When you aren't expecting wheels to lock up and they do, the fat part of a second while your brain makes the adjustment can be just a little too long. It definitely gets the adrenaline going.
