As a kid growing up in the 60s and 70s, I always loved cars. I collected Hot Wheels cars and loved to go to car shows when we lived in San Diego for four years. At that time, I didn't really follow foreign car brands, but by the time I started driving, we owned a Datsun Maxima in addition to American cars. From that point on, I started following Honda, Datsun, and Toyota, but not too much the European brands until my parents bought a Volvo 240 around 1984. I didn't know anyone who owned a Saab, but I did think the few that I saw on the road were interesting.
When I bought my first new car in 1989, I ended up getting an Acura Integra hatchback and grew to love the combination of a relatively sporty driving car with the versatility of a hatchback. When that car was totaled in 2000, I started shopping for a new car and begin looking at the VW Passat wagon. In reviews, I kept seeing it compared to the Saab 9-3 hatchback so I began researching Saabs, found Saabnet, read up on the history and innovative engineering, went to take a test drive, and was hooked! :-) Over the last 11 years, as I have learned more about Saab, I don't think I will now ever own anything else.
