Some states (eg. ND) have a program where they will refund sales tax for out of state visitors. MI has no such program and there was no way to get back the MI sales tax paid. So I would have had to pay all the Canadian taxes fees on the price of the car plus all the sales tax and dealer fees.
I was in negotiation with a Minnesota dealer who was willing to deliver a car out of state and not charge MN sales tax. But that was on a 9-3SC which we decided would be too small for our needs.
