There definitely seem to be some high performance tires that compare at least favourably for fuel economy (Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2, Pilot Sport 3, heck the Z G2 was 7th in RR in that testing link I pasted + they call it a LRR performance tire). Many of those are excessively performance oriented for me actually! I'm basically looking for a good balance on the performance side of things (there are a lot of really unbalanced tires in that realm!)... I'm surprised there isn't some kind of standardized testing for RR + numbers reported... should be a lot easier to quantify than things like hydroplaning resistance around curves... I'm also surprised I'm not finding more good tire testing in North America... most of the hits I got for tests seem to be out of Germany (and the tires don't always match up in terms of availability here)...
