The Saab stuff on the 9-5 isn't terrible, but you need to watch for things. Like others note, ask on the 9-5 board. The 9-5 engine had sludge issues through 2003, but that's not necessarily a showstopper. If the oil has been changed about every 5K miles and the PCV 6 upgrade has been done then at 164K miles you may well be OK. You can have the oil pan dropped to be sure if you buy the car. You want to check for motor mounts, find out when the serpentine belt was done (especially if the car is a V6), look for coolant leaks and find out where they come from. Come back and ask questions as you investigate the car. One of our Saabs is a '03 9-5 that is coming up on 110K miles. It's my wife's ride and every time I get into I think "gee this is a nice car." We'll have it a long time yet, hopefully double the present mileage. With any used car, have some money budgeted for repairs as you bring it up to snuff. Saabs run for a long time when cared for. The average mileage on our four is about 160K. Posts in this Thread:
