I am a bit baffled.

Why is that Chad is, apparently, the unethical one? How is it his ethical duty to offer a low price, whereas Anil has no ethical duty to honor a contract? It's interesting that the concept of ethics, legality, and fairness only apply to one side of the argument.

How is Anil - who initiated the contact - under any duress? I don't recall reading that Chad hounded him with phone calls or emails nor did he imply or express any form of retribution if Anil failed to buy the part. Duress only occurs when one party deprives another party of free choice. At any point Anil could have said "no" or hung up the phone.

Is Anil mentally handicapped in some way? Is he unable to evaluate a basic cash & carry arrangement in the scope of his own financial situation or the marketplace at large? Is there some unmentioned reason why he lacks the ability to establish a "good price" for a given item? Do you go to the grocery store with him to ensure he is not overpaying for tomatoes by 36%?

If I were him, I would be embarrassed and insulted to have a retired attorney argue ridiculous concepts like "price gouging" and "duress" in the face of my own apparently impatient and/or misinformed and/or lazy and/or unlucky purchase. However, as the guy who recommended he buy a Saab, and then recommended his buy a part for that recommended Saab from a known scammer like Chad the Indy, I guess I understand your skin in this game. You are the guy who got him into this. Sounds, to me, like you owe Anil $85.
