The i3 model was $650. The lowest entry 13 inch Air at the time of purchase was $1199.
I know it isn't an "apples to apple" :) comparison, but the $560 price difference was too big too overlook.

The i3 blows away the 4 year old Latitude performance wise, so it is all relative!
