With the snow and ice we have been having in Ontario, my 2005 9-5's ESP (which includes ESC and TSC) is activating frequently out of necessity in spite of running BFG Blizzak WS80's. On the next set, I'll see if the manual allows a narrower tire for winter which could improve traction by a further 5%-10%.
Saab was an early adopter of ESC. Here's a Saab specific video on the system I found on Youtube

One aspect I didn't know about until I saw the video was that if you turn it off, it will still activate under many braking situations for safety.
Personally, "I wouldn't leave home without it....."
