forgot to add this - it's a double vapour barrier problem. The floor is metal (vapour barrier). On that is the sound proofing which is foam and then rubber (vapour barrier). then the carpet, and then if you use rubber floormats, those (vapour barrier). Every time you have an absorbent material between 2 vapour barriers, it never dries! So that is the problem - any liquid spilled in there, any condensation, or more importantly in our climate - any snow that gets in there and melts and runs somewhere (off the mat, snow that gets in next to the mat, etc) collects all winter and never dries out. We had rubber mats, but they didn't actually help. I had to fix numerous holes through the floor of the car where it rusted from inside to outside. The bottom of the car was perfect except the paint was bubbling from rust that had eaten through from the inside! c900 underbody paint is very very tough stuff, and as long as it is not damaged, the metal under it won't rust, but on the inside of the car, it is thinner paint with some kind of material stuck to it (Sound deadening?), but it does degrade slowly... remember, this car is close to 30 years old, so it did pretty well. Now the interior of that car is a boat hull (fibreglass)... we will see how long that lasts, but at least those parts are waterproof. I also removed all the sponge, but I am still getting wet carpets... really hard to dry them out in winter... but I had this car garaged while doing work on it for 3 months one summer and the carpets and sponge was soaking wet (like you could squeeze water out!) when I removed it after all that time!!
