Here in the greater Toronto area, every couple of years, I prefer Corrosion Free under spray that's available at Canadian Tire. It's an enviro friendly "oil"-based product. The 9-5's we have are very well protected against rust in general but I find it useful to study how they degrade. Since I have shopped around during the pre-purchase period, I find the rear dog legs (surprise) are the most noticeable area followed by the gas cap cover and the general areas around the wheel wells. As I do my annual changeover to winter tires, I judiciously treat the wheel well areas with one of several oil-based corrosion inhibitors from a spray can, injecting the oil so creeps under the plastic liners to help protect the wheel lips and dog legs. Like Dad and Lad, I can be seen fall and winter with spray can in hand searching for rust or high risk areas to spray, like a Diogenes. Seems to work but as snowmobile says, it's a rear guard action against mother nature's inevitable wrath. If it's of any help to someone considering or using electronic rust protection, I recently discovered that one of my co-workers Dodge Caravans had suffered from a hideous rust problem in spite of having electronic protection from new.
