Loctite 518 vs. Permatex Permashield Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] (#32) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Justin VanAbrahams) on Tue, 4 Apr 2017 13:10:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a non-Saab application and maybe even a non-problem, but what I'm looking for is a way to better seal two halves of an intake manifold. There is a paper gasket, but since both halves have been severely ported I'm thinking the resulting modified gasket just doesn't have enough strength to do its job properly - I have some anecdotal evidence hinting at this. Since I have them apart right now, I want to put them back together in a better way.
I was initially thinking of just using 518 here, since it can be used on flanged surfaces in lieu of a gasket, but then ran into Permashield which can be used in lieu of or in addition to a paper gasket, and may just be rebranded Hylomar.
The location of the flange is well above the injectors, so the only chemicals the sealant has to deal with is oil from a turbo and the PCV system. No direct fuel. There is high vacuum and high pressure present, so I don't feel good about using an silicone-based sealant that might ooze out and end up going through the engine.
Anyone have any thoughts on these products or an alternative approach?
