It would seem to possibly affect the supply of replacement air bags (and I assume from your question that Takata makes the replacements) far more than affecting the reimbursement from GM for Warranty Work. GM can bully their suppliers for lower costs or free credits for the replacement units. Ultimately GM is still facing the Court Order to replace these air bags.
The older our cars get the fewer remain on the road, and the fewer will need replacement air bags.
