This is interesting news for us also. Volvo is probably more similar to SAAB than most other manufacturers, so definitely on the radar for us. I personally am interested in electrics (I know there are many who are not, different things appeal to different people), so it is a positive for me that Volvo is going this route. I was reading something else about volvo and they are really not interested in self-driving to replace human driving - they don't feel it is safe to do so, but instead are developing the technology to improve vehicle safety (this was more in the context of trucks). While electric propulsion appeals to me, autonomous vehicles do not!

We are unfortunately at a point where we do need to replace a saab - our winter beater is effectively non-repairable... so we've been looking sporadically. We'll probably end up with another saab for now though, as we prefer to buy used and the newer saabs are still a good value proposition vs similar year volvos, etc
