I've been in a similar situation a few times. I will take a decent quality socket (Husky or Kobalt) and grind down the exterior until I can get a good fit.
I attach the socket to a hex-drive adapter and chuck that in a drill. Clamp the drill snuggly in a vise and turn it on so the socket is rotating, positioned for easy access with an angle grinder.
Then, take your angle grinder and go to work on the exterior of the socket as it's rotating. By spinning the socket as you grind, you get a more even finish and it stays a bit cooler while you work. You can also use a belt sander and hold the drill-spun socket against the belt.
Good luck - JMJ
