I trust the shop (indie Saab), but this isn't what I wanted long Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Sat, 16 Sep 2017 08:41:07 In Reply to: Re: Okay to replace brake pads on new rotors after 1 or 2 months?, Bloodnose [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 16 Sep 2017 08:08:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
term.
Rotors were absolutely rusted to the point that the car vibrated tremendously while breaking. I can't imagine this having been good for the old pads.
Front pads are Akebonos and are about 4 years old, driven in the salty snow and probably have about half their life left.
My reason for wanting new pads is that I believe it's best to install them with new rotors and I want the whole set up to last a long time. If these current pads are fine but will only last a couple of years, then putting on new pads on already-broken-in rotors isn't great.
They drive fine overall, these pads and feel great. I'm thinking longevity here. I read it's better to install old pads on new rotors than the reverse, and I'd like to prevent that happening sooner than later (it'd be nice to have a set up that I don't have to think about for another 4 years or so).
