We have friends who had a Kitchen Aid that barely lasted 1 year (with multiple repair visits) before they replaced it. Kitchen Aid is not what it was 30 years ago. Kitchen Aid and Maytag are just other brand names for Whirlpool. Often the exact same fundamental product with slight aesthetic trim differences are offered in all 3 brands, but at different price points. The internal parts you don't see (what matters) is all the same. That is good in a way because it is easy and fairly cheap to get parts.
The built in disposal is an American thing I think...
There are many different Bosch models, and differences between them, operationally, and durability wise. I have heard of some control panel problems for some models. Generally they seem pretty good but are more expensive for certain basic quality and or feature standards than some brands (eg full stainless tub, 3rd rack).
Miele is generally considered an expensive, more high end option, but if you compare the same build quality and feature set, typically an equivalent Bosch costs about the same or more. Both are good products.
I would stay far away from GE however. Maybe they have improved in recent years, but all I have ever heard are horror stories.
